Choreographed in 2008 by Pablo Skornik, Argentina. The choreography bears no relation to Andean traditional dances.
Choreographer Pablo Skornik explains his dance, which is in the form of a Chakana, or Inca Cross (0:27). Starting in the east (0:34), moving anti-clockwise (the direction the sun travels below the equator) to north (toward centre of dancers’ circle) RL,R (QQ,S); then (backwards) west, L,R (S,S); south, LR,L (QQ,S); finally back to east, R,L (S,S). At 1:00 he begins demonstrating. Note he moves in 4 distinct directions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8S9eCzr36s
The choreographer’s intention is to walk a diamond-shaped figure, starting in the east.
In practice, due to the circular formation of dancers and hands being held, the shape is often closer to an inverted ice cream cone, or even a triangle. Try to avoid this.
None of the demonstrators below achieve a diamond shape. (It’s not easy).
