Pogonissio (L*) – Greece

*a Living dance is a 1st Generation dance that is still performed in the country of origin (or immigrant communities) as part of a social event like a wedding where others can participate (not for an audience) by people who learned the dance informally (from friends and relatives by observation and imitation, not in a classroom situation). POGONISSIO – (Poh-goh-NEE-see-oh) from the Pogoni region of Northwest Greece.  Also Southwest Albania, where its called Pogonishte.
This one’s slower, with feeling, even if you can’t see the feet very well, you get the spirit, and listen to those ancient harmonies!
Pogonisio is an example of Sta Dio or Two Step – a dance motif common throughout Greece.
