Oj' Srpkinjo, bud' orna, Oh, Serbian girl, be good,
kao što si uzorna, so exemplary of fine womanhood,
kaži, nek se razglazi: tell, so that it can be spread about;
šta te tako krasi? what thus characterizes your beuaty?

Belo grlo i lice, Fair neck and face,
čarne oči Milice dark "Milica" (dear) eyes
i ružice usana ili kosa vrana? and rosy lips and hair crow-black?

Kaži nam, naš krine Tell us, our lily
da nas želja baš mine; to satisfy our curiosity;
kaži nam sad odma, tell us now immediately,
kaži, nek se zna! tell us, that all may know!

Šta ti znam odgovorit, brale, How that I know to answer, brother,
kad me sram tvoje silne hvale: When I am ashamed
of thy mighty praise:

hvalte onaj cvet You are praising that beauty
što ga ima ceo svet that is in all the world,
dična sam samo I am brave only
ja što sam Srpkinja. that I am a Serbian girl.
