The Olt River (which begins in the Transylvanian Alps) runs through Olt county before emptying in the Danube, on Olt County’s southern border.

The Olt River also names the southwestern historical region of Romania, Oltenia.

Slatina (SLAH tee nah), population 85,000, is a city, capitol of Olt County. Slatina is a major industrial city, containing the largest aluminum smelter in Southeast Europe. The surrounding countryside is flat river plain. Agriculture is the main occupation in the county – over 58% of the population having agriculture as their main occupation. Both extensive agriculture, and small-scale, vegetables and fruits, are practiced.

Sârba Din Slatina, the dance

Sârba Din Slatina is a choreography danced by Mihai David when he was a performer in the dance troupe Perinița during the Communist era. Mihai’s brother Alexandru taught the dance at Stockton in 1978.
